In order to make India a manufacturing hub that will help boost jobs and growth, London-originated Gen Z brand WK Life is all set to launch its manufacturing unit of high-end electronic goods in Northern India by this year’s end. The company, which used to outsource their products from Hong Kong, London among others, has already started production of homemade personal care items including shower gel, lip balm, and soaps besides home-décor items.
The initiative was taken after the company announced recently to manufacture 30 percent of their products in India, which has the skill, talent, and discipline. Moreover, the low cost of manpower and strong technical and engineering capabilities contribute to higher quality production runs, thereby making the homeland the perfect place for setting up the manufacturing unit.
“If industry reports are to be believed, the consumer electronics industry is expected to reach Rs 1.5 lakh crore by 2025, from the present Rs 1 lakh crore. It shows how the demands of electronic items are increasing. Not only in urban markets but also in rural markets, durables consumer goods would witness growing demand in the coming years as the government has invested significantly in rural development. Therefore, to meet the growing demands of the electronic items, we have decided to set up our own manufacturing units and also tying up with prominent manufacturers in India. It will be most probably in Northern India. Our homemade personal care items are already out. They are 100% herbal with no presence of synthetic chemicals,” said Mr. Rohit Sahni, Director, WK Life.
The brand, which forayed in India in October, 2018, has already opened 14 new stores in India (Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mohali, Hyderabad, and Guwahati) along with over 100 signed franchises which will go live in the next 3 months. Globally, the brand has its presence in 1,000+ stores, 18 factories, 75 patented designs in over 60 nations with employees more than 4,000. The company offers a wide range of electronic gadgets like home theatres, bluetooth speakers, headphones, wireless chargers, bluetooth mic, charging cables, mobile accessories, power banks, mobile cases, backpacks, handbags, kids fashion accessories, scented candles and various other products.
As the retail sector is taking a high margin growth in India, they are planning to make themselves more visible in the market through their retail chains and expanding their geographical boundaries in various metros and tier-II cities of the country.
“The driving force in India is its vast population and with better markets and more organised retail spaces, it’s become easier to reach out to them. In WK Life, we offer our customers over 500 product categories and our offerings are growing every day. We believe the quality of products play a very important role in trust-building, which is one of the many reasons why we pout more focus on physical retail chains, where people can visit their nearest stores, as compared to omnichannel presence. Even our offline sales have gone up by 30 percent in the last one year. We are planning to expand to over 125 retail stores across India in the next two years,” said Mr Gaurav Dabas, Co-Director, WK Life.
