Venture Catalysts, India’s first and largest integrated incubator and accelerator, has invested an undisclosed amount as the lead investor in the Seed Fund round of Ai Health Highway, a MedTech start-up incubated at IISC’s Society for Innovation & Development. The funds raised from lead investors – Venture Catalysts and The Chennai Angels would be deployed for expansion and product development.

Non Communicable Disorders (NCDs) kill 41 million people every year globally and Cardio Vascular Disorders account for majority of the NCD deaths ie 17.9 million deaths annually. As a response, AiSteth, the pioneer product, offers real time visualization and recording of heart sounds on smart phone for remote monitoring of Heart/Lung sounds for “at high-risk groups” with co-morbidity (chronic heart and respiratory conditions).

Addressing the vision for the funding, Dr. Apoorva Ranjan Sharma, President, and Co-founder, Venture Catalysts, said: “1/3rd of NCD deaths occur in the low and middle income countries (in India 5.8 million deaths), clearly indicating the pressing need to diagnose and prevent the occurring. We are excited to back the value proposition of Ai Health Highway that leverages device, data and intelligence and wish them the best in their endeavours to work in the noble field of medical science”

From TCA Investment Director Manoj Jain, Managing Director, Shriram Life Insurance company limited, said “If the year 2020-21 has taught us anything, it is that technological advancements in Health tech is the most crucial aspect of ensuring society can stably function, survive and thrive. It is with this understanding that The Chennai Angels has onboarded AiHealth Highway as a portfolio company. Their innovation, the AiSteth, enables the end-user to not only listen but see, record, store and share heart/lung sounds. The Founders’ ability to reimagine the future is truly outstanding and we have utmost faith in their global team, backed by stellar advisors, to scale this innovation, while improving the lives of millions.”

Dr (Maj) Satish Jeevannavar, Founder, Ai Health Highway, added, “We are working towards screening, early detection and prediction of Heart and Lung Disorders and the Seed Funding would fast-track our vision to reduce 25% of premature deaths due to NCDs by 2025. Our easy-to-use device, AiSteth, has been developed in a manner that even the elderly patients can use this at their homes to monitor heart/lung functions which will be a big boost for home health and telemedicine partners.”

The co-investors include IIM-CAN, Lead Angels and Brijesh Agrawal. The pre-seed round was backed by Social Alpha, Mr Lakshmi Narayanan (ex Cognizant CEO), & Keiretsu and supported by R&D grants from Maine Technology Institute (MTI, US 2019), Atal Innovation Mission (India 2020), Forge Coimbatore – Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY Government of India 2021.
