Web 3.0 is a term that we’ve seen used by the modern and active community of internet users, they are also known as “netizens”. But what exactly is this so-called Web 3.0?

What is Web 3.0?

Web 3.0 is an emerging and evolutionary phase of the current generation internet, it is the base concept of creating a completely decentralised internet for the present and future generations of internet users or in other words – netizens. This technological advancement encourages and leverages the power and use of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, the Internet of Things(IoT), and one of the most advanced uses of technology like blockchain in order to create a solution to the modern or present-day internet that we use and surf on a daily basis.

The most simple idea of Web 3.0 is to create an even smarter online world than it already is. Let’s dive deeper into some of the applications of Web 3.0 and how it will help our educators/mentors/teachers and also the students who can now gain more than just knowledge, all thanks to our dear friend, the internet!

Problems in the current educational sector?

Access Difficulty

The current educational institutions are usually an in-person presentability setup where the teachers and students interact and communicate with each other on a daily basis by being physically present in the classroom or the premises of the educational institution. In schools or colleges, the lectures or sessions are taken place in a particular chronological order that has a particular start and an end and there’s no flexibility for the student to consume knowledge if he/she is unable to attend for a day or two. In certain areas, it’s very difficult for a student to reach the location of the school/college/educational institution which becomes a concern.

Increasing Costs

Most educational institutions charge a hefty amount of money for providing their educational services. This, in turn, has clearly caused an adverse impact on the students who lack the right financial resources and support. Their skills, talent, and potential can be observed to be gone to waste in front of the ever-growing wall of financial bricks.

Skills Development & Inefficiency

The traditional form of grasping knowledge is purely based on and focused on securing the best grades rather than generating the relevant knowledge and possessing skills and developing them. This way, the student might know a certain concept of a particular topic in theory but might not be able to apply it practically which gives them very less use of the theoretical knowledge and its application in real life and the world. Practical skills and their application change over time and hence the skills taught to them theoretically can become somewhat or completely obsolete by the time they finish their 3 or 4-year degree.

Web 3.0 for Teachers & Students

Nearly 1 Billion kids go to school every day but more than half of them cannot get access to the minimum advancing levels of education in terms of reading or mathematical problems. It’s a learning crisis that’s identified by the United Nations (UN) and it is said to be one of the greatest global challenges in order to prepare a child for life, work, growth and be an active citizen in the always-changing world we live in today.

Enhanced Teaching and Learning

Web 3.0 internet technology is slowly revolutionising the way we learn and teach! It promises to help the way of grasping, providing, and processing information by unleashing the use of advanced technology. Using various tools like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, IoT, and blockchain will ease access to the ever growing pool of knowledge for any student from any part of the world. Not only will it enable a creative classroom environment in an educational institution, but it will also help educators and teachers help create an engaging learning environment for the students and also help them create innovative assignments for their progress. Here, the students can actively participate and be a part of engaging content creation for everyone to be equally involved rather than just being present. Such advanced online teaching will help develop creative, analytical, critical thinking, and practical skills among students.

VR or Virtual Reality is the coming future of tech as it has already been introduced to us by Google and Oculus. Using the VR tech, children can experience and learn by interacting with a virtual 3D world by just sitting in one place. For example, students can experience a view of an actual monument of how it was back in the day as well as how it appears today during a historical event or a lesson.

Time-Saving and Education

Decentralised internet technology through Web 3.0 will streamline the learning and teaching process and will reduce the wastage of time. The students will spend very little time gathering data and integrating it into relevant information. AI and Machine Learning will understand and analyse the students’ search preferences and help them gain access to the right information in a matter of seconds without needing more data. The teachers can help themselves create engaging content with the help of in-built tech tools that can bring out study-centric material and make it available for the students to get their hands on it.

Teachers can also keep track of their student’s progress and performance through customised test-taking applications or software. This data will also help teachers to understand certain trends and areas where students lack and this can help them to improvise their method of teaching or explaining that particular subject/topic.

Decentralised Web Education

Blockchain technology is considered to be very safe and non-trackable. This can help the teachers and students to keep their sensitive information and data via blockchain technology where no third party can access this information for their gain/advantage. Students can store their documents and degrees in this ecosystem which will be safe and free from tampering.

Learn and Earn

Web 3.0 opens and supports learn-and-earn opportunities. Here teachers can create a customised testing system where the students can not only get grades but also certain reward points that they can redeem and gain access to their favourite skill set that can be loaned or bought from a particular website that helps out in a number of available skills programs.

Web 3.0 is all set to evolve and revolutionise the education sector for teachers and students alike by including advanced technology within our surrounding traditional techniques. Students and teachers will be able to enjoy what they do and learning will not be boring!
